Victoria is Australia's smallest mainland state. It is located in its south-eastern corner with a total area of 228 000 sq km. Victoria is a hugely diverse state of magnificent national parks, scenic landscapes, rugged mountain ranges and almost 2 000 km of coastline. Melbourne, Victoria's capital was also the first permanent colony established in 1835 with the colony of Victoria created in 1851. Named after the Queen of England and the township after her prime minister, Lord Melbourne. It is Australia's second largest city and known as the cultural, fashion and food capital.
