There are two things going for this story that really stood out to me. Published March 27th by Brava first published January 1st I love paranormal stories and this author writes an amazing dragon shifter series but for me her more contemporary shifter series is a bit hit and miss I’m afraid.

The characters are likable and irritating all at the same time, and that creates a tension while reading that’s surprisingly enjoyable. The book introduced some very interesting characters Sophie, Callahans, Cell’s friends etc The only complaint I have is that the ending was too abrupt and the romance was hardly given space, it seemed like an afterthought. I love the cover for this one.
There’s one scene where Cella and Crush kiss, and she finds out how much heat Crush is packing in his pants. Family arguments are par for the course, and beating on your friends and neighbors is part of the shifter mentality. Considering the fox shifters to be the shifter equivalent of con-artists. Speaking of friendships, we also got to see Novikov from Beast Behaving Badly get a friend.

However, his move was very much needed, because it seems the person behind the recent goings ons in the shifter world, is none other than the psycho bitch who raised him.

The only reason she’s joined forces with him is to track down the wealthy human who’s got her entire species in his ruthless sights. He kicks her out! I am very particular in that I prefer to read a series in order to get the full effect of the world, characters, and shorelines.
There’s a desire to see what idiot things the characters will do next. Lou Crushek is a reasonable, mellow, easygoing kind of guy. Novikov makes a friend! They didn’t really hang around each other a lot unless they were having sex. Item s unavailable for purchase.

So he does what any polar bear would do. Just like any cat with a secret attachment, she delights in annoying Crush and burdening him with her presence.
Now, I know I have been listening to these books back to back, which really usually kills a series, but even then, I think this book would have been an ok. Laurenston has a way with characters and dialogue, and there’s a wit in these stories that’s sadly missing from a lot of modern romances.

Since Cella and Crush come into contact with one another again, or rather she flirts with him purposely to embarrass him and asks him to be her pretend boyfriend to get her crazy family off her back, he gets to know her and they begin a very interesting relationship.
